I am lifted from reverie

To see beyond horizons of my soul 

in a place that has no place on earth.

 

I improvise my thoughts

And at risk of driving myself mad

Open my eyes wide.

 

A renaissance confronts me;

Random figures-naked- walk before me.

Are they Gods, the beautiful people

 

Dining on ambrosia,

Existing in pockets of sun

Within verdant pastures?

Have I been transported here?

 

I wrestle with a haze of thoughts,

Hoping to ignore the truth.

Drink has raped my mind once more.

 

I am ensnared in this filthy doorway,

My few belongings beside me;

My world is controvert and dark.

Princes of Wands            Fire

9 of Cups (Happiness)    Water

8 of Wands (Swiftness)   Fire

 

The flanking cards, Fire, Fire, overwhelm the weakened central card the 9 of Cups, Water.

Happiness is not guaranteed. There is a feeling of rushing forward without a basic plan. Earth and Air are missing, so whatever it is you are trying to achieve, it needs more thought and planning. Happiness can be achieved, but not at the expense of poor planning and a good well thought out basis.

Reading the String Thoth Tarot.

Short re-cap.

 

Your client has cut the deck into four piles.

You have looked to see if any pile stands out and is larger than the rest (as this might be a clue to the question).

You have turned over each pile and are looking at the top cards and the one below, to see if you can begin your story and answer the question posed.

 

Reading the string.

 

Now spread out the string you are interested in-do this from left to right. Now, there are 78 cards in the tarot; divided by 4 this equates to about 19 or so cards per string if the deck was cut equally, which in most cases it won’t be. So you either need a very long table, or you have to know your deck so well that you can overlap each card. Either way is fine, although I prefer to overlap them and squash them into a rather small space. Now I know I’m going on a bit; but it is important for you, the reader, to be comfortable with how you read the cards. I like my cards in front of me, not spread out miles down a table I can hardly see the end of. But whichever, your first string is spread out.

 

First of all count the number of cards in the chosen string.

Then count the number of elements present. Is there more of one element than another? If so, how will it affect the reading? Are there an opposing number of cards of one element that are in direct opposition with the string element you are reading? For example, you might have a large number of water cards (Cups) in a Fire string. This could indicate a huge emotional force is opposing the drive and potential of fire. How many Aces in the string? How many Court Cards? How many Major Arcana cards? I know! You are worried about how much time the above will take, while your client is fidgeting in silence. With much practice it only takes a short time to look at and sort out the numbers in your head. But, why not include your client as you go through the preliminary preamble? I always include my client and give them simple explanations as I go along.

The central card is very weak here. Whatever is going on in your mind: be it temptation, confusion or a feeling of being trapped, It is only in your mind. There are no positive groundings for these thoughts. And with the lack of Fire, nothing will happen. Look to move away from this dreamy, unreal state and concentrate on the realities of the situation, and face it.

The Tower          Fire

 

Earth and Air weaken each other, but the Fire card (The Tower) strengthens the central card (Ace of Swords). Whatever the problem, it will be resolved within a year. There is some support from Fire for Earth but this is minimal. Any confusion now, will become clear in the future. The interesting thing here is: the Queen of Disks is looking away from the confusion of the Tower, and the outcome of the Ace of Swords. Also there is no emotion here(Water). This would indicate to me, that the Queen is in a very weak position at the moment and will have little influence over the outcome.

       What an interesting Triad. It does make me wonder how this would work out in a full reading? Has the Queen been sidelined? Is this a family feud? What is it the Queen can’t face? How tempting to go on with this..But I won’t. You might!

Daily Triad

Today I have drawn three random cards, they are:

 

The Fool, Air 7 of Disks failure, Earth 2 of Wands dominion Fire.

The central card 7 of Disks is the important one, the flanking cards are the modifiers.

 

The analysis is as follows. Air and earth weaken each other.

Fire and Air strengthen each other.

Fire is also friendly with Earth.

This might seem a bit complicated at first, but in reality it comes down to the relative strengths of each card in the triad.

 

The central card Earth is weakened by Air, while being slightly supported-on a slow burn-by Fire. However, Fire and Air combined overwhelm this card.

 

My reading of these three cards is as follows.

 

This feeling of failure is due to past experiences, at a time when you were not fully prepared. In your mind you are worried about another failure with a new project you are about to embark on. This time you need to look at the basics…Water…which is missing and would indicate there is an emotional side you are not taking care of. Look at the past by all means, to see where you went wrong; but don’t dwell on. Make sure your emotions are in the right place, and that this new project is not just an illusion. If you are certain about everything, the fear of failure should fade away and enhanced confidence will take over.  

Opening of the Key Spread

Today I want to replace the Daily Triad with some instruction on how to open the key spread, and why it has more depth than a positional spread. The linear spread is a far better option and will tell the story better. The ootk spread, will enable you-and your client-to gain a bigger picture of the question asked. In a positional spread you are restricted by the position the card falls in; so whichever position one of the 78 cards falls in, you are almost duty bound to interpret it thus. The linear spread will give you more subtlety and enable you to look deeper into the question.

 

Let us start at the beginning and go through the sequence of setting up the ootk spread.

 

1 Ask your client to shuffle the cards while thinking of their question and then place them back before you.

2 Ask your client to cut the cards roughly in half and place them to your left, leaving a space-point to where you want them.

3 Now ask your client to cut the first pile again and put in the space they left.

4 Finally ask your client to cut the third pile into the remaining space.

 

You will now have four piles. They are as follows from your right.

Fire, Water, Air, Earth. Or Past, Worries, desires, Outcome/Answer.

 

Earth

Air

Water

Fire

 

From these four piles you will often be able to deduce the nub of the question. Most people don’t cut the cards into even piles, and this is often an indication of where the question lies in their general life. All of this can go on in your head before you turn the cards over. It might be, the worry pile is the largest, followed by the outcome pile. This would show that they are worried by the outcome of the question. So a good place to start the reading might be in the worry pile, followed by the outcome. After this you could look at the past in order to see if anything there has brought this about: and then the desires pile to see what it is your client wants in life.

 

The next stage is to turn all the piles over. Now you can glean even more information by reading the four cards. It is also a good idea to look at the second card down in each pile, as this will help to qualify what you have seen in the top cards.

Daily Triad from the Thoth Deck.

Today I have, 3 of Swords (sorrow) Air. 9 of Wands (Strength) Fire. 7 of Disks (Failure) Earth. In a positional spread this triad could seem a bit puzzling. But in the elemental linear spread it all becomes clear.

Air and Earth elementally cancel each other out. So we are left with the central card, 9 of Wands in a strong position.

This is my reading of the situation. From a position of fear and loss you have now gathered the strength to move on. At the moment you are resting after an arduous battle, and have conquered past fears. However, do make this a brief rest as you do have energy left to go forward with what you have learned and the strength you have gained.

Daily Triad

Today, at random, I have the following cards from the Thoth Deck.

4 of Cups (Luxury)  2 of Wands (Dominion)  10 of Disks (Wealth)   The triad reads like this.

The central card is always the most important, and on this case it is weakened by the flanking cards of water and earth.

So the question is. Do you have Dominion? Do you have that boldness and courage to move forward? Or does your own ego get in the way? With these three cards, it looks at first sight that you have everything you need. But elemental dignities have shown beyond doubt that you are weakened, and perhaps you have less control than you imagine. Also, there is no Air card present to give you fresh ideas or puzzle around the situation. For the moment you are stuck. But you do need fresh ideas quickly or you are in danger of losing what you already have.

I have just picked 3 cards at random from the Thoth deck, they are…

The Magus (Air)  4 of Disks (Power Earth)  5 of Wands (Strife Fire)

The 4 of Disks is the central card, therefore it denotes what the reading is about.

Fire and Air are strong here and they overwhelm the Earth card, which is not friendly with Air. The 4 of Disks, Power is therefore weakened.

To sum up.

You have not built on solid enough foundations or put limits around yourself. Therefore you are vulnerable to outside influences or those who would do you harm. Look again at how you communicate with others in order to gain their support. Also, look at the ideas you have and chose new ones if necessary.
